ISO 45001:2018 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
ISO 45001:2018 is an ISO standard for management systems for occupational health and safety (OH&S), published in March 2018. The purpose of ISO 45001 is the prevention of occupational incidents and diseases, including physical and mental health.
The standard is primarily based on OHSAS 18001 and guidelines of the International Labour Organization and national standards. It includes elements related to standard BS OHSAS 18001 which it is going to replace within a three-year migration period from 2018 to 2021.
ISO 45001 follows the structure of other ISO standards, mainly as ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015, which makes integration of these standards easier.
ISO 45001 was started at the ISO in October 2013. Almost 70 countries contributed to the drafting process. Preparation of the new standard done by the technical committee and work lasted until December 2015.The standard was published on 12 March 2018.
ISO 45001:2018 is now published to replace OHSAS 18001 in March 2018. BSI is set to formally withdraw BS OSHAS 18001 till March 2021, at the end of the migration. ISO 45001 uses the management system standard to allow for simplified integration with other management system standards, such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. IAF has published requirements for migration from OHSAS 18001 to ISO 45001
